Photo Friday: Fancy. Heather and I were coming back from a photo wander in the Lower Haight when we followed our ears toward Duboce Park. There were the usual sounds of dogs running and barking, but there was an unusual sound, too. Something old and scratchy. There was a gentleman in a top hat (and, really, how else can you describe someone in a top hat?) playing records on an old-style wind-up gramophone. It felt like something out of another era - like it was strange to be seeing in color. The music made me feel like everything should fade into an orange duotone. "How old is that thing?" I asked. "Fifteen years," he said. "Fifty?" "No, fifteen," he said, looking up to see a tinge of disappointment on my face. "They still make 'em in India." He offered it up like an excuse.
