I'm visiting Denver with Heather for her office holiday party. The first thing most people say to me is, "You brought a jacket, right?" I must look like a Californian. Yes, mom. I brought a jacket. And I'm glad I did. It's freezing. There's snow on the ground and icicles hang from rooftops. Yet for some reason I'm constantly parched and supercharged with static electricity. Must be the altitude. It's different from San Francisco, and it's not just the cold. Stores here seem to love blasting music on to the sidewalk. Aggressive holiday cheering. And of course the smoking indoors is always a funny change. Of course, some things are just like home. |
