Ephemera 400: Over San Francisco
« Previous

When I was a kid, the city replaced a few sidewalk squares outside the house. As soon as the workers were gone, I ran out and scribbled a doodle in the sidewalk. For years, knowing that drawing was there made me feel more connected to the place.

A couple months ago, they redid some of the sidewalks on Clayton Street. When I wandered by an unguarded, still-wet sidewalk pane while walking the dogs, I knew what I had to do. I grabbed a stick and wrote the traditional couple's initials. But this time I gave Heather's new middle initial a try. It was the first time I wrote it anywhere.

Today is our two-month anniversary. I love you more every day, Heather Powazek Champ.
