It's been hot in San Francisco the last couple weekends. If you don't live in San Francisco, or you think that hot weather is no big deal, think about it this way: Imagine a city that's usually cold and foggy. And by usually, I mean, 349 days a year. A city where everybody lives in houses where the windows were long ago painted shut. Where someone in shorts is someone from out of town. Then crank the heat up over 90. People can't deal. The go outside to cool off and forget sunscreen and burn to cinders in the street. They open their fridges to cool off only to find that they, too, have given up. They whine on their websites. But not Bug. Bug LOVES the heat. This is him last weekend in Buena Vista park, in between scaring squirrels and not getting carried off by a hawk, pausing just long enough to smile at me and make me forget how fucking hot it is for a moment. |
