Fuselage of German plane, Musée de l'Air et de l'Espace (The Museum of Air and Space), Paris. Because we are nerds, Heather and I ventured out of our comfy confines in the Marais, from underground to train to bus, to The Museum of Air and Space. It sounds a lot better if you pronounce it with a thick French accent. Viva la Musée de l'Air et de l'Espace! We quickly found that it was more air than space, and in spite of the piles of technology strewn about the old airport hangar, there was not a trace of air conditioning to be found, so the air was mostly hot. This was one of those places that exists for kids to visit on field trips - huge swarms of kids, that run screaming and chirping in French from one display to another, knee-high and kicking. Once we got the flow of avoiding the swarms, we had a great time looking at all the contraptions. The French history of daring air travel was notable for both the bizarreness of some of the designs, and the almost complete omission of anyone named Wright. |
